Chinese premiums to stay high with no new
  import quotas - dealer

India flips to premiums, supply limited

Oct 14 (Reuters) - Physical gold buying improved in India this
week as prices cooled ahead of the Dhanteras and Diwali festivals later this month, while Chinese premiums stayed elevated amid robust demand.

Indian gold prices eased to around 50,800 rupees per 10
grams as of Friday, from a near two-month high of
  52,120 rupees hit last week.

"Demand has been better in the past few days after prices fell," said Ashok Jain, proprietor of Mumbai-based gold wholesaler Chenaji Narsinghji.

This prompted dealers to charge $1.5 an ounce premiums over official domestic prices - inclusive of 15% import and 3% sales levies -
  versus $6 discounts last week.

However, "volatility in overseas gold prices and the rupee is still deterring many buyers," Jain added.

Supplies were limited as banks were importing less and inflows
of gold-platinum alloys have stopped after the government raised the import duty, said a Mumbai-based bullion dealer with a private bank.

Banks have instead been diverting supply to markets with higher premiums,
  such as China and Turkey.

China saw premiums of $27-$32 an ounce over global spot prices, although COVID restrictions could hit
  activity.

"Robust domestic demand has been the most vital factor driving local gold price premium in China," the World Gold Council (WGC), China, said.

Stable local prices, the industry's replenishing needs ahead of the
traditional peak season and gold's role as a value-preserving asset amid uncertainties
  are driving demand, it added.

China's central bank controls how much gold
enters the country via quotas to commercial banks.

We've not heard of new quotas being issued and hence, premiums could stay high, said Bernard Sin, regional director, Greater China
  at MKS PAMP.

Premiums of $1-$4 an ounce were charged in Hong Kong, and $1.50-$3 in Singapore.

"Demand is high in Hong Kong. They're restocking gold since supplies are less," said Joshua Rotbart, managing partner, J.

I'm impressed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that's equally educative and engaging, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head.
The issue is something too few folks are speaking intelligently about.
Now i'm very happy I stumbled across this during my hunt for something regarding this.

Today, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a
25 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple
ipad is now destroyed and she has 83 views.
I know this is completely off topic but I
had to share it with someone!
